Shilland creditors angry as agency faces liquidation

Shilland Communications, the 18-year-old consumer PR specialist whose former clients have included Brylcream and Bass Brewers, is facing liquidation this week.

As PRWeek went to press, a meeting of creditors was due to take place under section 98 of the Insolvency Act 1986 in London.

Agency founder Peter Shilland was expected to make a statement to creditors and answer questions about the company’s travails. The meeting also gives creditors the chance to nominate a liquidator.

One creditor, who declined to be named, said: ‘We got a letter saying they are about to go into liquidation. I’m furious and I’m certainly going to attend and ask them some difficult questions.’

Those claiming they are owed money include Median Recruitment and Attitude Events.

Shilland, who founded the firm in 1985, was unavailable for comment as to whether the current troubles are linked to the loss of several high-profile clients in the past two years.

Bass Brewers replaced Shilland with Golin/Harris International in 2002 (PRWeek, 25 January 2002) while Brylcream replaced the agency with Frank PR two years ago (PRWeek, 30 November 2001).
