Public sector brief: Social workers

The British Association of Social Workers has criticised the BBC for its portrayal of their profession in EastEnders.

The trade body’s director Ian Johnson said a recent plotline involving a social worker taking away the baby of character Paul Trueman was ‘insensitive and inaccurate’. He added that plot lines in soaps were ‘hugely influential’ in shaping public opinion.
