DfES campaigns to get parents online

The Department for Education and Skills is to launch a year-long campaign to boost web use among parents.

This week it was announced that the Big:group has been awarded a £1m full-service contract from the DfES to deliver the 12-month campaign for its Parents Online service.

Key messages will be to increase awareness of the educational benefits of the net and warn parents of the dangers of pornography and paedophiles.

PR activities will include dedicated event weeks, startings with Families Online, to coincide with National Child Safety Week from 23-27 June. A focus will be the dangers of paedophiles who target victims through chatrooms.

Big:group will then turn its attention to the elderly, in co-oporation with Help the Aged, for Grandparents Online Week between 22 and 26 September.

There will also be a regional drive to get schools to register with the site.
