Microsoft names new comms boss in Spain

Madrid: Microsoft has put Carlos de la Iglesia at the helm of its communications department in Madrid, replacing Jose Romero, who left to take a similar post at Vodafone Spain.

De la Iglesia will handle press and general communications for the US software giant, working alongside Microsoft’s PR agency in Spain Ketchum Seis. He will report to Microsoft’s comms director in Spain Isaac

Hernandez.

De la Iglesia will also oversee the promotion of new Microsoft products in the peninsula, including the launch of Microsoft Office 2003, scheduled for later this year.

Microsoft's sales in Spain rose 27% last year, boosted by high demand from big businesses for its software.

An 8-strong Ketchum Seis team has handled PR for Microsoft business divisions for over 10 years. The agency handles comms for most Microsoft units but doesn't for the MSN Network.

Prior to the appointment, De la Iglesia was publications director at IDG communications and was a top executive at top software and computer magazine Computer World before that.
