DIARY: Iraq war brings lesson for Westminster PROs

Westminster City Council's 16-strong comms unit was last week split into teams representing the Iraqi Information Ministry, the UN, Kurds and 'the Coalition' as part of a role-play training exercise.

The session, which recreated scenarios from the war, had 'serious lessons', said comms head Alex Aiken, adding that it would help 'negotiate the diplomacy of London PR'.

Aiken - well acquainted with handling PR campaigns in far-flung places - was in the Kurdish team, which, he says, quickly realised the need to go on a 'charm offensive' to forge alliances with rivals.
