Cubbitt associate Mark Houlding said the main task would be to build the corporate brand of DeTeWe, the telecommunications division of £4bn turnover Mannheim-based Roechling Group.
'In Germany, DeTeWe has a huge design-led presence along the lines of something like BT, while it is almost unknown in the UK,' said Houlding.
However, despite a lack of brand presence here, DeTeWe has a user base of 14,500 systems and a range of blue chip clients in the UK, including the Home Office and Virgin.
It has been operating in the UK under the name Shipton Communications and RPL Telecommunications since 1923. In 1997 the company rebranded under the DeTeWe umbrella.
The appointment of Cubitt, which won a three-way pitch, came as DeTeWe prepares to launch its new OpenCom range of converged voice-data solutions.
Houlding said that Cubitt would target IT press and the national business media in potential client sectors such as manufacturing, logistics and retail.
