NDS hires agency for corporate PR

NDS, the Rupert Murdoch-owned set-top box smartcard company, recently embroiled in a legal spat over piracy issues, has hired Shared Value after a seven-way pitch.

Shared Value replaces incumbents Cohn & Wolfe and Golin/Harris International.

The agency, which specialises in IR, will handle UK corporate PR for the group, which recently settled a lawsuit filed against NDS by France's Canal Plus, as part of a deal to buy Canal's Italian pay-TV arm.

NDS denied allegations made by Canal that it had intentionally broken the security encryption systems on Canal Plus set-top boxes and posted them on the internet.

NDS director of PR Margot Field said the review is not linked to the allegations and that the pitch followed the acquisition of Visionik and Orbis, while reflecting that the company has 'moved on'.
