DIARY: Byrne bushy-tailed as Macpherson joins pack

Weber Shandwick joint-CEO Colin Byrne has managed to reach a new low in his attempts to sneak a mention in Diary.

'For fox sake, I must be getting desperate,' Byrne emails, the dreadful pun fully intentional, as he bids to alert the world to the opening last week of The Fox Hole, the name for the agency's new

in-house bar.

At The Fox Hole's naming ceremony, Byrne explained the root of all this vulpine commentary. He introduced Bruce Macpherson, an account director in the issues management and international affairs team since three weeks ago, by making reference to Macpherson's former role as press chief at the Countryside Alliance - a staunch campaigner in favour of hunting with hounds.

Byrne and Macpherson are at least now riding together in pursuit of their quarry.

In the late-1990s Byrne dispensed PR advice to Deadline 2000, a coalition of animal-rights campaigners, which wanted fox-hunting banned.
