INTERNATIONAL: WS wins Siemens brief following a 12-month hiatus

BANGKOK: German conglomerate Siemens has returned the PR account for its mobile phone division to Weber Shandwick after a one-year break.

Weber Shandwick SV-P Peter Emblin said the agency had worked on the account in 2000 and 2001, after which the 12-month retainer moved to Hill & Knowlton.

Senior adviser Peter McIntosh said work on the returned account will mainly involve PR for new mobile phone models. 'They have a strong product roll-out this year, so a significant part of the work will be media relations, press conferences and product launches,' he said.

This will include models under the XELIBRI name, a brand of 'fashion accessory' phones launched in global markets last month, and which will hit the Thai market in the third quarter of this year.

The phones will be sold in two 'collections' each year, and, like fashion accessories, will be available in limited quantities.
