Winterhalter and Fieldhouse use ad agency as model

Two former directors of IPG subsidiaries have teamed up to launch a new agency staffed on the ad agency model.

Former European director of healthcare at Weber Shandwick Karen Winterhalter, who was made redundant last September, has linked up with former BSMG Worldwide deputy UK CEO Pamela Fieldhouse to form The Onyx Consultancy.

Fieldhouse left BSMG during its merger with WS in 2001 and worked with Winterhalter at BSMG.

The new firm is to follow an ad agency structure, with a creative director and media planner under the two directors, and calling on freelance support where necessary.

'There have been so many redundancies in the industry that we can call on a pool of 20 accredited freelancers,' said Winterhalter.

The British Menopause Society is the first client to be signed up by Onyx.

Former Fleishman-Hillard head of corporate practice Jonathan Steffen has launched his own consultancy, following his redundancy from the agency last month. He has launched The Corporate Story, offering corporate and individual positioning using what he termed 'narrative development'. Steffen said he would not be hiring full-time staff at this stage.
