GE pitches for UK shop following HQ move to Brussels

The world's largest firm by market cap, General Electric, is pitching for corporate PR support in the UK following its European HQ move to Brussels.

GE, which has traditionally handled corporate level PR in-house, is looking for on-the-ground agency expertise after last July's relocation from London.

A shortlist of four agencies has been drawn up with a view to hiring an agency by the end of April.

General Electric EMEA PR director Louise Binns said: 'With the move, it's an appropriate time to look for a UK-based agency to provide broader corporate support and media relations in the UK.

'When we had an HQ in London, we could manage UK media relations ourselves, but when we relocated it made sense to look at what form of additional support we might need.'

She declined to confirm which agencies were in the frame, but said some of those involved were retained elsewhere within the GE group, which consists of 13 businesses.

The successful agency will handle strategic support, media monitoring and media relations, alongside PR support for GE's corporate campaign Imagination at Work, which is due to launch across Europe in the next few weeks.
