DIARY: St Patrick's Day offers the perfect excuse to party for PR agencies

St Patrick's Day seems to have captured the imagination of the PR community this year. The PRWeek postie is weighed down with invites to events aimed at marking this weekend's celebration.

Lexis PR has been drafted in to organise national drink Guinness's Paddy's Day celebrations, and its unusual take on an Irish bar is surely worth a visit. The agency, under board director Margot Raggett, is to open its own pub for the occasion. The Saint and Shamrock, touted as the 'world's first fully functioning botanical pub,' has been seven months in the growing and is built out of 20,000 shamrocks.

This is the fourth year Lexis has organised Guinness's flagship annual PR stunt It is open all weekend at Canary Wharf's Cabot Square and any PRWeek reader to turn up is entitled to a free glass of the dark stuff. Lexis staff will be on hand to ensure PROs receive a warm welcome.

For those with firmer constitutions - an intriguing alternative: The St Patrick's day bash hosted by Jamieson Irish Whiskey at the Atlantic Bar and Grill has been organised by Launch PR and promises flowing golden juice all night. The hangover headache will be more severe, but the wind will surely be lighter.

Oh, such choice.
