Fashion title Nylon for Guys to launch next month

NEW YORK - Nylon, the edgy fashion magazine for young women, will break into men's publishing in March with the first issue of Nylon for Guys.

Envisioned as a twice-yearly blend of celebrity, fashion, and gadgets that does not follow the beer-and-babes model, the new title will be packaged with the women's magazine and sent to its 225,000 subscribers.

"We joke about it being something that women will pass on to their boyfriend," executive editor Jeffrey Rotter said, "but it should appeal to women too."

Rotter said the design will evoke the original, but the tone will be a bit more snarky. Its coverage of consumer products, he said, will run the gamut from the fabulously expensive to the attainable.

"We try to balance aspirational items with things that are practical," he said, citing the inaugural issue's section on PDAs. "We want the tone to be friendly. It sort of celebrates the geekiness of fetishizing these devices without making it inaccessible for the readers."

In addition to product pitches, he added, the editors will be looking for pitches on hot new bands, artists, and actors.
