WASHINGTON: APCO Worldwide has named Licy Do Canto as MD of its Washington, DC, office and the agency’s Mid-Atlantic region.
He started in the role on Monday, reporting to North American president Kelly Williamson. As head of the DC office, Do Canto said he supervises approximately 200 people.
The DC office and Mid-Atlantic region were being managed by Evan Kraus, who remains APCO’s global president and MD of operations, the firm said in a statement.
Do Canto said he was attracted to APCO’s reputation and appreciated the fact that it is woman-owned, but he realized it would be a good fit after speaking with the agency’s leaders.
“I knew about APCO long before I joined, but as I sat across the table talking to them, I knew this was a place I wanted to be,” he said.
In a statement, APCO cited Do Canto’s history of developing campaigns, using advocacy and advisory experience and supporting clients’ organizational priorities.
Previously, Do Canto worked at BCW as EVP and MD in its public affairs and crisis practice, a role the agency created when he was hired in early 2019.
A BCW representative could not be reached for comment on his departure.
Before the WPP firm, Do Canto ran his own public affairs consultancy, The Do Canto Group, that he launched in 2010. He closed the firm to work at BCW.
