White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki delivered her first press briefing on Wednesday night. She promised to bring “truth and transparency” to her exchanges with the news media, and took questions from almost every reporter. Psaki said she has a “deep respect for the role of a free and independent press in our democracy,” and pledged to hold daily briefings, save for weekends. “There will be moments where we disagree,” she added. “But we have a common goal which is sharing accurate information with the American people.” Social media users widely viewed Psaki’s press conference as delightfully sane

President Joe Biden has issued a warning to his staffers. At a virtual swearing-in ceremony for new senior administration officials on Wednesday, Biden told employees that “decency” should be a priority and “that’s been missing in a big way the last four years.” He added that if he hears any staffers “treat another colleague with disrespect or talk down to someone, I promise you I will fire you on the spot. On the spot. No if, ands, or buts.” 

Three former presidents united to wish Biden well. In a joint video statement, Presidents Barack Obama, George Bush and Bill Clinton came together to discuss the importance of a “peaceful transition of power.” They expressed their commitment to America’s democracy across party lines and emphasized that Americans had to come together in order to overcome the country’s pressing issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Obama said "we can have fierce disagreements and yet recognize each other's common humanity and that, as Americans, we have more in common than what separates us."

Fortnite developer Epic Games has hired lobbyists. The company has retained Subject Matter and three of its lobbyists; and Gibson Group. Both firms said in registration filings they would “monitor antitrust issues in the technology industry” on Epic’s behalf, Axios reported. Epic Games is suing Apple over alleged anti-competitive practices.

A promotion at Golin. Lindsay Peterson has been upped to MD of Golin Canada. Peterson, who was previously an EVP at Golin Canada, reports to president and COO Gary Rudnick. PRWeek has all the details on her appointment.
