On the week of Axios’ 4th anniversary, cofounder and CEO Jim VandeHei discusses the platform’s growth, its concept of smart brevity and the establishment of a company bill of rights.
VandeHei also talked about the decision to invest in local journalism, how PR pros should interact with Axios and non-partisanship in the war for truth.
Elaborating on Axios’ promise to never have an opinion section, VandeHei stated that “all of us in the media can tone down the gamesmanship and tone down the noise to try to get people to focus on the things that matter — give them clarity.”
“You don’t have to do it with hyperbole or pounding your chest on Twitter and you don’t even have to do it by being condescending in how you talk about a topic,” VandeHei told PRWeek editorial director Steve Barrett. “You do it by being able to take these epic topics and put [them] into some context and do it in a tone and way where people go ‘OK, I can trust it.’”
