Allison+Partners buys NYC boutique Sommerfield Communications

The deal will bolster Allison’s ESG and b-to-b capabilities.

NEW YORK: Allison+Partners has acquired New York City boutique agency Sommerfield Communications.

The deal will bolster Allison’s environmental, social and governance communications, executive positioning, thought leadership and b-to-b comms, the firm said in a statement. Financial details were not disclosed.

On its website, Sommerfield lists Charles Schwab, HSBC and the Rockefeller Foundation among its clients. 

Sommerfield founder and president Frank Sommerfield will serve as an MD at Allison, developing the firm’s financial services and ESG comms capabilities. 

Allison’s revenue increased by 22% in 2019 to $71.9 million, according to PRWeek’s Agency Business Report 2020

The firm is a part of holding company MDC Partners, which is set to merge with Stagwell Group. Mark Penn, principal of both networks, would be chairman and CEO of the combined holding company. 

Third-quarter 2020 revenue for MDC’s “all other” business segment, which includes Allison as well as Bruce Mau, Forsman & Bodenfors, Hello, Team and Vitro, dropped 35.4% to $50.6 million
