Merlin replaces incumbent Gavin Anderson on the financial, corporate and sponsorship brief, put out to pitch late last year. It is believed City PR rival Finsbury pitched against Merlin for the PR business.
Merlin, which has previously handled project work for Man's five-year sponsorship of the Booker Prize, is retained to lead sponsorship PR, alongside a remit to help raise understanding of the hedge fund industry, criticised for lack of regulation and investment risk.
Merlin CEO Paul Downes said: 'The hedge fund industry has a high profile but often for the wrong reasons. It is not as well understood as it should be and this inevitably impacts on perceptions of Man.'
Merlin reports to Man head of group funding and external relations David Browne.
The brief includes corporate positioning, City PR, internal and IR work for the plc, alongside work for Man divisions Man Investment Products and Man Financial.
