Former HSBC comms leader launches firm in Hong Kong

Victoria Coplans Hope (pictured above) has launched Hope Communications which will specialise in employee engagement and communications, change and leadership communications, and redundancy communications advisory.

Hope, who will be CEO of her new consultancy, was most recently global head of employee engagement and communications at Shangri-La. Prior to that, she led employee communications for HSBC's retail bank and wealth management business in APAC for six years where she worked across internal and external comms. She also clocked in experience in employee comms at Cathay Pacific and AIA. Early in her career, Hope worked with the UK Treasury and wrote speeches and policy for the UK Prime Minister among others.

Hope says that the current pandemic has driven employee engagement further up the list of priorities, and that employees expect authenticity and empathy from their leaders at this time—both in terms of their communications and the measures they are taking to help their employees manage the stresses of the pandemic.

"Companies with the highest levels of employee engagement see big improvements in productivity, reduced attrition, enhanced employer brand and increases in profitability," she says. "C-suite executives are now recognising that they need to respond effectively to the massive shifts in the employee landscape over the last year and are seeking professional advice."

She adds that there is also an increasing need for redundancy communications at this time. "With external reputation, employer brand and productivity all at stake, it is incredibly important that companies get this right. Ensuring that employees are treated with respect and dignity is vital and there is an extraordinary amount of planning that goes into getting such a delicate exercise right. It is imperative to seek advice from professionals who have experience in managing this process," she says.

Hope will partner with Ashbury Communications—led by Adam Harper—to deliver integrated internal and external communications propositions for corporate change processes in Asia.
