NEW YORK: Auction house Phillips has hired Magda Grigorian as global chief communications officer, effective on Monday.

Based in New York, Grigorian is reporting to Phillips CEO Edward Dolman. Reporting to Grigorian are Europe press head Katie Carder, Asia PR director Ingrid Hsu and Americas PR director Jaime Israni.

Grigorian is responsible for driving the company’s global communications and PR strategy and overseeing all aspects of internal and external communications.

“I am looking forward to leveraging my arts PR background and experience driving integrated communications strategies to help further expand Phillips’ global reach,” Grigorian said.

The last person to lead communications at Phillips was Michael Sherman, who left the company last fall to join Gagosian Gallery in February as comms head.

Grigorian has joined Phillips from Sharp Think, where she worked since 2016 as VP and account director of the firm’s arts and culture practice, landing the European Fine Art Foundation as one of its primary accounts.

Grigorian also worked for Haughton International Fairs for 21 years, building its presence and reputation as a global leader in fine art and antique fairs.

She started her career at Sotheby’s, where she was senior manager of corporate affairs.

Phillips’ speciality areas include 20th Century and contemporary art, design, photographs, editions, watches and jewelry. It operates salerooms in New York, London, Geneva and Hong Kong as well as an online auction platform.
