NPA comms revamp is put on hold

A revamp of the National Pharmaceutical Association's comms function is 'taking a back seat' so the body can concentrate on its lobbying campaign to avoid deregulation of high street chemists.

The review, which follows the departure of public affairs head Veronica Wray late last year, is expected to take place in around three months time.

This is when its campaign, specifically to counter Office of Fair Trading recommendations calling for deregulation of the rules governing the opening of pharmacies, is expected to be concluded.

NPA pharmacy practice director Colette McCreedy said that, 'strategic planning has taken a back seat for now'.

Since Wray's departure in December, to set up her own consultancy, the seven-strong comms and lobbying team has been led by senior PRO Judy Vatistas, who is now acting public affairs head.
