MILFORD, CT: Subway has named Current Global as its global AOR.

The Interpublic Group agency will manage both corporate reputation and consumer PR and will work to promote the brand in the global quick-service restaurant category and food industry in general, according to a statement.

The fast-food chain wanted a new firm as part of a transformation at the company that includes a new leadership team and an examination of the Subway brand, said a Current spokesperson. The chain brought on a new CEO, CMO, and chief operating and insights officer last fall.

Current will build the “corp-sumer narrative and integrated campaigns that address all of their important stakeholders,” the spokesperson added.

The IPG shop inked the deal with the fast-food chain this month after a formal RFP that was held in May and June. The company said it invited seven agencies to pitch for the account but declined to name the shops. Subway previously worked with Ruder Finn.

Current’s 20-person Subway account team is led by EVP Lisa Dini and SVP Desta Roy on the consumer side, and EVP Renee Austin on corporate work.

Subway owns no restaurants; all its locations are owned and managed by the 20,000-plus franchisees.
