FOLSOM, CA: Hill+Knowlton Strategies has won a six-figure account from the California Walnut Board and the California Walnut Commission.
The WPP agency will manage communications for the two organizations’ relationships with walnut growers and handlers, the firm said in a statement.
The groups are tasking H+K with “enhancing our industry communications program” and increasing engagement with stakeholders, said Michelle Connelly, executive director and CEO of the California Walnut Board and Commission, in a statement.
Specifically, H+K will work on content creation and publishing, government and public affairs and earned and social media. The RFP was issued in April and the business was awarded this month.
The remit does not include consumer PR or marketing communications, which is managed by Edelman.
“Bringing H+K into the fold did not impact Edelman's current scope of work. H+K and Edelman will be partnering on work this year," an Edelman spokesperson said via email.
The California Walnut Board and the California Walnut Commission are separate groups that work together. The board is funded by mandatory assessments of handlers and the commission by that of the growers. Together, they represent 100 handlers and more than 4,500 growers.
More than 99% of U.S. production of English walnuts comes from California, the organizations said in a statement.
