Marco hires tourism comms veteran to global role amid recruitment spree

Marco has appointed tourism communications leader, Tomás Matesanz, as its global business development and innovation officer. The agency has also won a raft of new clients.

Matesanz’s focus includes driving innovation at Marco and identifying and defining new disciplines and partnerships.

He is the latest in a series of 13 new hires in the past two weeks. This follows the addition of 24 new clients across the world in 2020, including Amazon Prime Video, Nickel (part of BNP Paribas), Snapchat, Tourism of Dubai and GSK in Brazil.

He reports to CEO and founder Didier Lagae at a time when the business plans to open international offices in Brussels, London, Berlin and Milan in 2021 and 2022.

Matesanz will support a new office opening in the Polish capital of Warsaw In November.

He is a strategic communication and public affairs veteran in the tourism sector and was appointed as a council member of GLG Consulting in London.

His previous roles include global director of communications and public affairs at Silversea and VP of communications and regulatory affairs for the CLIA, a trade association for cruise companies that is strong in Europe.

He has also served as the corporate general manager of global communications and public affairs firm LLYC, formerly known as Llorente & Cuenca.
