UAE utility giant Taqa names senior British energy exec as new comms chief

Gareth Wynn, who has been comms director for Oil & Gas UK for the past three years, will join Taqa in Abu Dhabi at the end of this year in a new role. He will report to the group CEO and managing director, Jasim Husain Thabet, who was appointed in the summer.

Wynn, previously a senior MD at FTI Consulting and before that a comms leader at EDF, E.ON and PowerGen, will sit on Taqa’s leadership team with a brief to run external and internal comms for the majority government-owned power firm.

Taqa is the merger of the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (formerly known as Taqa) and the Abu Dhabi Power Corporation (ADPower), which was completed in July. It has become one of the largest utility firms in the region and is the UAE's third-largest publicly traded company by market capitalisation.

Operating in thirteen countries, Taqa runs oil and gas production facilities in the UK’s North Sea, in North America and across the gulf region.

Wynn was head of FTI Consulting’s energy division for 18 months before leaving to join Oil & Gas UK in 2018, where he currently holds the title director of stakeholder and communications. He is responsible for external affairs, media relations, editorial and design, events and membership.
