Movers & Shakers: Red Havas, BCW, Finn Partners, The Blakeney Group, JIN and more

PRWeek's weekly roundup of industry hires, departures and promotions.

Red Havas has hired James Garland as an account director: social and content. His role involves leading digital and social strategy across technology, corporate and consumer accounts as well as line-managing producers and designers. Garland brings seven years’ experience, having held UK- and New Zealand-based positions at agencies including Ogilvy & Mather, Proximity and Saatchi & Saatchi London. 

Finn Partners has promoted Debbie Flynn, formerly managing partner of Finn Travel Europe, to global travel practice leader.

BCW has appointed Shada Islam as a senior advisor. Islam is a political strategist specialising in European Union affairs, with a particular focus on Europe’s relations with Asia and Africa, geopolitics and trade, and diversity and inclusion. She previously worked as director of Europe and geopolitics at Brussels think tank Friends of Europe. 

Lizzie Loudon, who was press secretary to Prime Minister Theresa May, has taken up a new role at The Blakeney Group.

Communication agency JIN has hired Simon John as managing director of its UK division. John is a former Dentsu X client managing partner and worked at Dentsu Aegis for five years on pan-European accounts including United Airlines, Lidl, Honda and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Lorna Branton, head of media and campaigns at NHS Digital, has been appointed executive lead for comms for Sherwood Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Heiko Weiss has joined Interel Group as managing director of Interel Germany, succeeding Markus Weidling, who will leave the company by the end of the year. Weiss joins Interel Group from Advice Partners, where he had been director public affairs and head of the policy unit since 2015. He previously held senior positions in public affairs at Deutsche Bank and at consultancy firms including Fleishman Hillard Germany and IPA Network International Public Affairs.

Investigative journalist Russell Findlay has been appointed director of comms for the Scottish Conservatives ahead of next year's elections.

Political communications consultancy Atalanta has hired Elizabeth Ames as its inaugural chief operating officer. Ames is a former chief of staff to the Brunswick Group founder Sir Alan Parker and has worked as a senior advisor for clients including the Gates Foundation and Save the Children. She will oversee day-to-day operations, including talent strategy and D&I. 

Kindred has hired a creative chief from advertising agency BBH and a business director previously at Golin.

Comic Relief has hired Fatima Ribeiro as executive director of fundraising and creative. She will oversee brand engagement, digital content, public fundraising and philanthropy, and develop strong, impact-led ethical storytelling. Ribeiro is the former interim head of marketing at Islamic Relief UK. 

Comms agency Seahorse Environmental has hired former environment minister Richard Benyon alongside John Lewis' former corporate responsibility chief Benet Northcote to lead its reputational audit offering.

Vicky Torraca has been appointed senior external comms manager at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory.
