RePurpose is a coalition of consumers and brands that have taken action to eliminate plastic waste. It provides the world’s first plastic credit platform and aims to help individuals and companies remove and recycle ocean-bound plastic.
Using a process of rebalancing, rePurpose helps companies assess their plastic footprint and finance the removal of as much nature-bound plastic waste as their operations create. It also educates businesses on how to reduce their use of virgin plastic.
“We committed to being plastic neutral in 2020 – and rePurpose was the perfect partner to make it happen. The first step was measuring our plastic footprint, at home and in the office, to better understand our impact,” Milk & Honey PR head of operations Petrina Marks said.
“But this is about more than offsetting. The partnership has educated us on the enormity of the plastic problem and practical ways we can make a change. We are committed to reducing our impact on the planet, and we will continue to explore innovative ways to minimise waste.”
Milk & Honey PR, which is also B-Corp accredited, has partnered the vRecycle project in Goa, India – a region that faces a significant waste problem due to tourism and a lack of waste-management infrastructure.
The vRecycle initiative works with a recyclers’ conclave, helping them collect 15 tons of multi-layer plastic each month.
“We have a diverse community made up of impact-driven SMEs through to Fortune 500 companies," rePurpose co-founder Peter Wang Hjemdahl said.
“Milk & Honey PR is a great addition, pioneering plastic neutrality in the PR and marketing industry. Agencies have a significant role to play here. Beyond their own footprint, they can also have meaningful conversations with their clients around valuable, long-term sustainability initiatives. The sector can play a leading role in reducing waste, reviving lives and restoring nature’s balance.”
About 40 businesses are currently certified as plastic neutral, including Vita Coco.
