Home Depot’s 12-foot viral star skeleton sells out

The early social media fascination of this Halloween season has won fame on its own, without a push from the retailer.

Move over, home improvement influencers and YouTube celebrities. The social media star of the hour is a 12-foot skeleton from Home Depot. After going viral on Twitter and TikTok, the $300 Halloween decoration sold out online.

The home decorator’s communications team is as pleased as a kid with a bagful of candy about the larger-than-life skeleton’s popularity.

“As the product authority, we’re thrilled to see customers are engaged with another innovative product from the Home Depot to help celebrate, entertain and enjoy the holiday this season,” Yanique Woodall, Home Depot’s senior director of brand communications, told PRWeek via email. “With the day placement of Halloween on a Saturday, we know customers are eager and excited to decorate for themselves and their neighbors to enjoy, and we’re glad to see our 12-foot Giant-Sized Skeleton with LifeEyes has been added to their Halloween décor.”

She added that the skeleton has achieved online fame on its own because Home Depot has not deployed a social activation for the product.

However, a TikTok video showing Home Depot employees struggling to assemble the gargantuan skeleton has gone viral with more than 1 million views.
