Although scrutiny of high-profile coach Terry Venables has relented recently, chairman Peter Ridsdale is coming under pressure from fans disillusioned as players head for the exits.
But perhaps the nadir came last week when a report in The Guardian alleged that the situation had become so fraught that the club's director of PR and corporate affairs - David Walker - has been roped into handling transfer dealings.
The report claimed Walker had been flown to South America - sans El Tel and Ridsdale - to handle negotiations with Brazilian midfielder Kleberson, who reportedly called Leeds' behaviour in not sending the top dogs along 'amateurish'.
The talk in the City may be of PROs multi-tasking as the downturn bites, but asking the PR man to broker a major player transfer may be unprecedented.
Despite repeated attempts by Diary to elicit further details, the club declined to comment.
