MENLO PARK, CA: APCO Worldwide’s Marc Johnson is set to join Facebook as VP of corporate communications.
Johnson is set to leave his role as MD of APCO’s New York office on Friday. The firm declined to comment beyond mentioning his departure in a statement in which it announced its reorganization into regional hubs to focus on business development.
"I am truly thankful for the 12 years I spent at APCO," Johnson said in a LinkedIn message. "I believe in the leadership and mission of the firm now and into the future. I am very excited about my next chapter and look forward to working with a great group of folks at Facebook."
He declined further comment.
Before leading APCO's New York office, Johnson was global co-lead of digital strategy for the firm. He moved to APCO New York from a senior associate role in Washington, DC, in 2011 to serve as senior director of digital strategy.
Johnson was previously associate account director at Mindshare Interactive Campaigns.
Facebook CMO Antonio Lucio stepped down in August, shortly after more than 1,000 organizations including Unilever, Mars and Coca-Cola pulled ad spending from the platform in July in support of #StopHateForProfit. The company said in its Q2 earnings that its July revenue numbers were affected by the boycott, but its growth rate in the first three weeks of the month were in-line with its Q2 rate of 10%, according to CNBC.
