Buhlmann, who becomes a non-executive director at Tulchan, was appointed as chief executive of Aegis plc in 2010. His tenure included its 2013 merger with Dentsu of Japan, which created media and digital marcomms company Dentsu Aegis Network. He remained chief executive until the end of 2018.

Roles in Buhlmann's portfolio career since than have included non-executive chairman of digital marketing agency Croud, senior independent director at automotive distribution, retail and services company Inchcape, and senior advisor to business management consultancy OC&C.

Tulchan chairman Robert Sutton said: “We warmly welcome Jerry to the board. His experience of transforming businesses in a digital age, his commercial acumen and his entrepreneurial spirt will be of great benefit to all of us as we seek to grow and develop the Tulchan advisory business.”

Burgess, who joins as a senior adviser, was until last year the deputy global chief information officer and chief investment officer for EMEA at Columbia Threadneedle, an asset managment group that manages investments worth £105bn.

Andrew Grant, Tulchan senior partner, said: “We are very pleased that Mark has chosen to come and join Tulchan, initially as a senior adviser. He will be working with us three days a week and will be fully engaged across our clients. Mark brings very significant experience of the investing process and engaging with companies on governance issues. We anticipate clients will welcome his advice on developing a compelling Investment case and their engagement with shareholders.

"For those clients who are engaged in either an M&A transaction or an IPO, we believe his experience and insight will be of particular value. At a time when there is more scrutiny than ever before on governance, and the balancing of the interests of all stakeholders, we think his insights and experience will be of particular relevance to boards as they look to navigate these complex and sensitive issues."

Burgess and Buhlmann both join the London-based agency on 1 October.

Tulchan has also announced that Jonathan Baines will be standing down as a senior adviser at the end of its financial year in March 2021. The agency said: "He has been a wonderful colleague and contributed in so many ways. We will miss working with him and wish him every success in the future."
