Ruder Finn acquires video content shop Osmosis Films

The Brooklyn-based firm’s clients include PayPal and the World Economic Forum.

NEW YORK: Ruder Finn has acquired Brooklyn, New York-based video content agency Osmosis Films.

Osmosis, launched in 2011, is a creative strategy and production studio. Its client list includes the World Economic Forum, PayPal, The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Teach For America and Bloomberg Philanthropies, the firms said in a statement. 

Ruder Finn executives met with their Osmosis counterparts in February, said Ruder Finn CEO Kathy Bloomgarden, via email. Both sides agreed to the all-cash deal in the last few days. 

Ruder Finn’s global revenue was just under $80 million before the deal, she added, and will rise to approximately $85 million post-acquisition. Ruder Finn’s revenue was up 11% in 2019 to $78 million, according to PRWeek’s Agency Business Report.

Ruder Finn will maintain the Osmosis brand because the shop has a “strong reputation and network,” Bloomgarden said. 

Osmosis founder and CEO James Lawler is becoming a Ruder Finn employee; no office consolidations or layoffs are planned. 

"Osmosis will be bigger and better as a part of Ruder Finn with access to a wealth of expertise across many different industries and geographies and a vast network of new client relationships,” Lawler said via email.

Last September, Ruder Finn acquired healthcare internal communications specialist SPI Group, and it bought Pleasantville, New York-based RLA Collective, which focused on over-the-counter brands, in 2018.
