ZPB hires pharma specialist for partner role

Healthcare specialist ZPB Associates has appointed industry veteran Jo Spadaccino as partner to strengthen the agency’s pharma client base.

The appointment speaks to the agency’s strategy of bringing the worlds of healthcare, pharma and tech comms under one roof, it said.

ZPB said it had won a number of global pharma contracts in the past 12 months and was advising those clients on their UK strategies to demonstrate the value they bring to the health system.

Career path

Spadaccino has worked in healthcare agency and public sector health comms for the past 20 years.

She began her comms career at Bedford Hospital, where she rose to become PR manager before leaving to join Munro and Forster as an account director in its ethical healthcare division.

From there, Spadaccino moved to Cohn & Wolfe, where she stayed for seven years, rising to become director of its 40-strong healthcare team.

Most recently, Spadaccino worked for healthcare specialist Pegasus, where she spent the past 10 years growing the agency’s pharma and life sciences team from the ground up into a £4.5m revenue team, as head of that division.

At the time of leaving Pegasus, Spadaccino was leading a team of 85 as head of client partnerships.

Challenging the status quo

Commenting on her appointment to ZPB, Spadaccino said: “My mission is to extend the agency’s 360° vantage point in healthcare; going deeper into the pharmaceutical sector to really challenge the status quo in how communications are delivered.

She continued: “[ZPB’s] agility in responding to the recent crises in healthcare show the potential that data, insight-led and collaborative comms have to create the reset that’s now required.”

In November, ZPB acquired fellow healthcare agency Journalista, raising its staff count to 17 and adding to its existing client base, which includes Novartis, Amazon Web Services, and Push Doctor.
