NEW YORK: MWWPR has hired former British Airways VP of PR for the Americas Chip Garner as an SVP in its corporate reputation practice.

Garner is based in New York and is reporting to Michelle Rios, EVP of corporate communications and MD of the firm’s Washington, DC, office and Carreen Winters, chairman of reputation and chief strategy officer.

“One thing that attracted me to MWWPR was its independence and its stature as a major league PR player but not as part of a holding company,” he said, adding that the chance to work with an agency creative team was also a plus. “I’m a visual person and I think about strategy and PR in a visual sense...I’m looking forward to working again with a creative team and matching strategy with creative content or telling stories through a visual creative lens.”

Garner left British Airways on Tuesday and started at the agency the following day after talking with MWWPR since early June. He does not have a set number of direct reports but is managing employees based on accounts.

Garner had worked at British Airways since 2018, leading media relations, crisis communications, creative and corporate campaigns for the global airline in the Americas.

A British Airways representative could not be reached for comment on Garner’s exit.

Previously, Garner worked at Ogilvy and Rubenstein.

MWWPR’s 2019 revenue was flat at $42.7 million, according to PRWeek’s Agency Business Report 2020.
