Esporta plans to boost its UK offer with PR shop hire

Upmarket fitness club chain Esporta is on the hunt for PR agency support as it bids to boost its membership and build its profile nationally.

The move follows the appointment of Alex Pike, who started work as Esporta's first marketing director this week.

Esporta marketing and comms manager David Jones, who reports to Pike, said an agency would probably be hired 'within the next month'.

Jones, who is to co-ordinate the hiring process, said a formal pitch process was 'a possibility', adding that an agency would probably start work in February.

Jones said the fees the agency would receive would depend on meeting 'quantifiable targets' in terms of press coverage.

He said the remit would constitute 'lifestyle and consumer' PR work to boost membership of clubs and increase the national profile of the Esporta brand.

Esporta used Berkshire-based Promote PR until around 12 months ago, when the chain decided against using external PR help.

Pike is part of a new management team installed after Esporta was taken private by Duke Street Capital Leisure Investments last July. She reports to CEO Kevin McCollum.

Jones said the agency's PR contract would start with UK work but could expand to continental Europe in due course.
