Edelman consumer arm cut back

Edelman has laid off a quarter of its consumer practice, blaming the 'financial performance of that division'.

While refusing to name those who have departed, CEO James Thellusson confirmed that the team has lost six staff, taking it down to 16.

'These were voluntary not compulsory redundancies, which is an unusual and mature approach for PR agencies to take,' he said.

Thellusson insisted the redundancies were not reflective of agency's performance.

He said UK staff numbers were at 112, up nine from this time last year.

An insider told PRWeek that Edelman ceasing to handle PR for O2 (PRWeek, 13 September 2002) was a major financial blow.

Meanwhile Edelman has named former MGM Cinemas UK MD Mike Sommers as the first member of its newly-created advisory board.
