Ghosh, who joined TIME in 1997 but was promoted to European senior editor two months ago (PRWeek, 18 October), this week took the website editor role from James Geary, who has become TIME deputy editor.

Ghosh said the website team was 'mulling over ideas' but added that he planned to boost the site's news analysis content and recruit web-only columnists to write on themes such as immigration.

The website, which is mid-way through a redesign that will be completed over the Christmas and New Year period, launched in 1999 and last month received more than two million page views, its largest-ever total.

Meanwhile Joe Klein, who anonymously wrote Primary Colors, a best-seller inspired by the US 1992 political race, has joined TIME from The New Yorker, as a columnist.
