MEDIA: BBC's Liquid News editor Smith at Sky

BBC TV has lost the programme editor of its daily live entertainment show Liquid News to Sky News.

Matt Smith will join Sky as one of two entertainment correspondents next month, working alongside Georgie Arnold.

Both report to head of news Nick Pollard, who said: 'Matt brings a strong entertainment background coupled with keen journalistic skills to the team.' Smith will cover the showbusiness and cinema beats.

He replaces Tim Muffett who, in a curious twist, is joining Liquid News.

Muffett's title will be senior broadcast journalist.

Muffett joined Sky News in 1997 and his entertainment reporting experience includes a two-year posting to Los Angeles in 2000.

Smith, who combined his programme editor role with some reporting duties at Liquid News, spent eight years at the BBC, including stints with Greater London Radio (GLR, now renamed London Live), BBC Radio 1 and science programme Tomorrow's World.

He started his career in commercial radio as a reporter and newsreader on stations in the south of England.
