SBC swaps firms to raise its profile with government

SME organisation the Small Business Council has switched PR agencies, hiring Focus PR in place of Fishburn Hedges.

Focus begins work this week, after a three-way pitch, on a brief to manage the SBC's profile.

The SBC, which advises Secretary of State for Trade and Industry Patricia Hewitt, hopes to influence Government on a number of issues, including training, financial regulations and temporary staff legislation.

Focus, reporting to SBC chairman William Sargent, will handle media relations, specifically with the business and broadcast media, alongside speaker opportunities.

'It's a question of finding the right opportunities for William Sargent to speak on issues they have strong views on,' said Focus director Sara Balme, who leads a team of four on the account.

She added they will also focus on promoting the SBC's ongoing series of nationwide town hall meetings, the next of which is scheduled for January in Edinburgh.

The SBC was launched in 2000 and has seen 17 of its 22 recommendations to Government set out in its 2001 Annual Report accepted or partially accepted, with a further 23 recommendations recently published in this year's report.
