PUBLIC SECT0R: ACT launches PR strategy to raise Christian profile

The Association of Christian Teachers is creating its first PR strategy in an attempt to raise awareness of Christian values in schools and to boost membership.

Future campaigning is expected to include calls for improving religious education. This includes bringing RE, which is part of the basic curriculum, into the national curriculum for the first time.

It will also campaign to encourage parents thinking of home schooling on religious grounds to have more confidence in state schooling.

The 2,500-strong body, which hopes to woo extra members from the estimated 7,500 non association Christian teachers, this week appointed its first PR agency, Evangelical Alliance subsidiary EA Media Consultancy, to handle the brief.

The move follows a change in leadership earlier this year with the appointment of Rupert Kaye as its first CEO.

Kaye said: 'We need to be more proactive.'
