INTERNATIONAL: The US army considers proposal to privatise jobs
WASHINGTON: The US army is considering a proposal to privatise more than 200,000 jobs - a move that could displace thousands of public affairs officers worldwide. The step is being taken to help the army concentrate more resources on fighting terrorism and to comply with a government directive issued by President Bush last year, that all government agencies must out-source work not deemed 'inherently governmental'.
