E-commerce firm merges divisions as Meyer departs

E-commerce specialist Commerce One has merged its PR and marketing divisions following the departure of global corporate communications director Patrick Meyer.

Meyer quit the group after two-and-a-half-years in the role to join international IT company Siebel - which has global revenues of £2bn - as director of corporate communications, covering Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Nasdaq-listed Commerce One will not be replacing Meyer. Instead it has decided to hand his remit to director of UK marketing Catherine Stenson.

Commerce One's decision to roll PR into marketing will not affect the firm's relationship with retained UK agency Brands2Life, which was appointed last August (PRWeek, 31 August, 2001).

Meyer takes on the role at Siebel on an initial contract basis, with a remit to manage external agency relationships across the region - a roster of at least six agencies, including Hill & Knowlton in the UK - alongside developing PR strategies and campaigns.

He said: 'I will be focusing on best practice and on the roll-out of partnership announcements across the world, such as Siebel's recent alliance with Microsoft.'

He added that while he will be drawing up a detailed PR plan, he will not be reviewing external agency relationships at Siebel.

Meyer reports to Siebel head of international marketing Phil Robinson.

He replaces Sarah Atkinson, who left Siebel to pursue a career outside PR.
