Lareau was selected during ICCO's annual assembly in Stockholm last month and will succeed current president and Ketchum chairman David Drobis next October.
'This appointment shows Spain's increasing role as one of the world's largest communications and PR markets,' said Agustin de Uribe-Salazar, president of Spanish PR body Asociacion de Empresas de Comunicacion (AEDEC).
De Uribe-Salazar, AEDEC representative to the ICCO, claimed that the Spanish PR sector is growing at an annual rate of 20 per cent.
One of Lareau's main goals will be to boost ICCO's role in helping members improve the quality of their comms.
