PUBLIC SECT0R: Fire brigade PROs one step closer to own association

The first moves have been made to set up a professional association for fire brigade PROs.

PROs from fire brigades and related services agreed at a seminar staged in Essex to set up the group, provisionally called FirePRO.

Essex chief fire officer David Turner, who for the last year has been calling for the setting up of a group to improve communications, said: 'It's at an informal stage at the moment but by next year we hope to have a formal organisation in place including the appointment of officers.

'This will provide an important two-way network for brigades in better communicating with each other and externally,' he added.

A working group is now being set up, overseen by among others Glenys Southworth, Lancashire Fire and Rescue director of corporate services.

It has also been agreed that a formal meeting will take place by April next year where it is likely that officers will be appointed and a constitution will be agreed.
