Paul Rees is joining from stablemate Kerrang!, replacing Danny Eccleston, who will be working on a new music project for the company.
Dave Henderson, the publisher's MD of rock, said: 'We're very excited about his new idea and have decided to give him the creative muscle to make it happen.' Eccleston will work with Paul Trynka, editorial director of Emap's Mojo, on the venture.
The move leaves Kerrang! looking for an editor, while Phil Alexander, managing editor, will also be going with Rees to Q.
Kerrang! has long held its position in the unfashionable heavy rock music sector. But the recent chart revival of heavy metal music has helped circulation leap 60 per cent year on year to 83,900.
The appointment of a new editor at Q follows Emap's announcement last month that it has a variety of music-related projects on the drawing board (PRWeek, 11 October). Emap Performance rock titles brand manager Stuart Williams is to drive a multi-media launch with a rock theme.
