PUBLIC SECT0R: North Lincolnshire council review of comms structure

North Lincolnshire Council is to overhaul its PR function as part of a council wide restructure.

The moves, approved by cabinet last week, will lead to the scrapping of the council's five directorates and the slashing of senior management roles by one third.

The PR unit, currently reporting to the corporate services directorate management, will gain a direct reporting line within a year to the CEO as well as improvements to internal comms.

A review is under way on whether to create a head of PR role and an additional internal comms officer post.

CEO Michael Garnett said a stronger comms role was a vital part of the new structure.

The current team is headed by PR manager Barry Fleetwood, who added that a priority was a stronger identity for the council, which he says is frequently confused with nearby authorities North East Lincolnshire Council and Lincolnshire County Council.
