The creation of the UK PA role follows the promotion in the summer of former UK head of government affairs Matt Lambert to EMEA director of government affairs.
The software giant's UK corporate PR manager Jacqui Crane said: 'Seventy-five per cent of Matthew's work is still UK-focused. This role has been created to assist him with that work.'
Lambert, to whom the new post holder will report, is assisted by retained UK PA agency Westminster Strategy.
Crane added that this additional in-house role does not affect the company's relationship with the agency.
Lambert is looking both internally and externally to fill the role,with some interviews already undertaken: 'We're called on to get involved in a lot of Government areas and have been a bit stretched.'
He added that computer security was an area Microsoft will be increasingly involved in. It has recently been involved in the preparation of the Communications Bill.
Other recent changes to EMEA corporate and government affairs during the summer included the promotion of Marie Therese Huppertz, a senior attorney in the Brussels office, to director of corporate affairs.
This latest announcement comes two months after Microsoft appointed former Oracle vice-president and director of marketing Nick Barley as UK director of marketing (PRWeek, 9 August).
