The group, saved from bankruptcy last month by an eleventh hour £410m government lifeline, has drafted in FD to handle comms with the media and business community.
In mid-September, BE was given three weeks to secure a rescue package, but the Government has now extended that deadline to next month.
BE PR manager Julie Lea insisted no official appointment had yet been made, but said: 'We had two consultancies on board and are now consolidating that to just one.'
GA chief executive Richard Constant, who has worked on the BE brief for six years, said: 'Inevitably as the group came under pressure and after several management changes it was right the board should seek one voice rather than two.'
Maitland founder Angus Maitland, who was working with BE chairman Robin Jeffrey as part of Jeffrey's personal advisory team, said: 'We had an appointment to advise the firm over a difficult period. Our role was to advise the chairman - that is now over.'
FD declined to comment, but it is believed partner Andrew Dowler is heading the work.
