The secret to being a good comms pro in 2019 is... Authenticity. PR is a competitive and often challenging industry. Everyone has a different style and not everyone's style will work for you. Be resilient, empathetic, proactively seek out learning opportunities and surround yourself with talented colleagues who both champion and challenge you.
If I could change anything about the PR industry, it would be... Diversity. I'm proud of the work already being done by many incredible leaders in our industry to ensure we better reflect those we serve. However, we must address areas like social mobility, mental health and gender pay if we are to truly lead the way as a sector.
I'm inspired by... I have the immense privilege of promoting the work of incredibly talented journalists who travel the world holding truth to power and exposing injustice, wherever it exists. Both they and the courageous people whose stories they amplify inspire me daily.
If I wasn't in PR, I'd be... I studied business and law and had I not diverged into communications I'd currently be an insurance underwriter... a very scary thought indeed.
