McIntosh has seen "whirlwind" success at Hanover since moving to the UK less than three years ago from New Zealand, the agency says. She has tripled the b2b client base and grown the b2b trade comms function from one person to five, making it among the agency’s fastest-growing teams.
The secret to being a good comms pro in 2019 is... If there's a secret I don't know it! Being consistently invested and passionate about the work, actively listening to everyone (not just the boss/client) and not being afraid of criticism are important in comms - but generally, too. Not being hindered by 'the way things are done' is always helpful!
If I could change anything about the PR industry, it would be... The underlying insecurity of our business value. I've heard and had too many conversations about not 'having a seat at the table'. I think sometimes we're (inadvertently) perpetuating this narrative. Do people in advertising worry about their value like we do? No. And neither should we. We've proven it already.
I'm inspired by... My Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern. The way she responded to one of the worst tragedies in New Zealand's modern history, with both emotional intelligence and swift legislative changes, has been nothing short of world class. When conversations inevitably turn to world leaders, I know we're punching well above our weight!
If I wasn't in PR, I'd be... I'd like to say something really lavishly different to PR, but the truth is I'd probably be working in a similar discipline like marketing, sales or advertising.
